This year, Mexican music and culture will be special guests of the fiestas.
Ochomayos is a traditional fiesta celebrated in the Basque Country. As the name points out –Ocho, eight in Spanish; Mayo means May- on May 8th the inhabitants celebrate the apparition of Orduña’s patron saint: La Virgen de La Antigua.
Local authorities parade towards the Sanctuary of La Antigua to pay tribute to the Virgin together with macebearers and clarinettists. The previous night the «txupinazo» is the official starting signal for Ochomayos.
Activities run until mid May. Sports activities, several contests, cattle fairs, dance and theatre shows, concerts, open-air dances, bullfights, street music bands, popular meals and many events for the little ones are just a few of the programme activities planned to enjoy Ochomayos.
This year, Mexican music and culture will be special guests of the fiestas. For this reason, the grandchildren of Mexican leaders Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata will attend the traditional fiestas of Orduña.
